The One Week Workshop on MACHINE LEARNING FUNDAMENTALS FOR ENGINEERING APPLICATIONS ( 25th February 2019 – 02nd March 2019) was organized by Dept of Computer Science and Engineering. This workshop was organized as a part of CSI Regional Student Convention (R-V) being conducted on 01, 02 March 2019.

Workshop Focus

The focus of the workshop is on creating awareness among students and faculty and giving basic knowledge which will help to pursue Research/Projects in this area. The importance of machine learning is growing fast as it plays an important role in the development of Intelligent Systems in Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is a buzz word in industry. Keeping this fact in view, a one week Faculty Development Program (FDP) to introduce basics of machine learning to the interested faculty, researchers and students has been organised. The talks in the morning sessions pertained to Linear Algebra, basic probability concepts, types of learning, concepts of neural networks, perceptron, back propagation etc, and the notion of computational intelligence and lastly some exposure to promising research topics have been given. The afternoon sessions were fully devoted to imparting hands on experience at using python and a machine learning tool called WEKA. As there are no prerequisites students were encouraged in particular for the workshop.

A total of 113 participants registered for the workshop from all over Telangana state which include faculty and students. On day one, Mr. Neil Gogte, Founder / Secretary of Neil Gogte Institute of Technology was the chief guest of the inaugural function on 25th February 2019. He also delivered a keynote lecture on “Machine Learning”. On all subsequent days theoretical lectures were held in the forenoon and hands on lab sessions were conducted in the afternoon.

On the concluding day valedictory session was organised in the CSE seminar hall and certificates were distributed to participants. The workshop was well received with all the participants giving a positive feedback.
